'Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell' TV adaptation adds actors
The TV adaptation of “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell” is getting closer to the small screen.
Susanna Clarke’s novel is being adapted by BBC One and BBC America and will star actor Eddie Marsan of “Sherlock Holmes” and the TV series “Ray Donovan” as Mr. Norrell. Bertie Carvel, who starred in the Broadway adaptation of “Matilda” as Miss Trunchbull and appeared in the the 2012 film version of “Les Miserables," will portray Jonathan Strange.
Other actors set to appear in the TV series, which is scheduled to begin filming this week, include “Beautiful Creatures” actress Alice Englert as Lady Pole and “Game of Thrones” actor Paul Kaye as Vinculus. The show is set to be a seven-part series.
“Strange” focuses on two magicians who reside in a Napoleonic Europe where magic still flourishes. Mr. Norrell takes Jonathan as a student but Mr. Norrell and Jonathan’s different views of magic begin to endanger their partnership.
The novel was first released in 2004.
No date has yet been set for “Strange” to air, according to Deadline.
