Reader recommendation: The Hummingbird’s Daughter

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

The Hummingbird’s Daughter by Luis Alberto Urrea is an historical novel about the author’s distant relative, Teresita, set in Sonora, Mexico in the 1880’s. Teresita is a healer and becomes revered as a saint by her many followers. I thought this was an excellent book – beautifully researched and written – and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
