In The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things, author Paula Byrne ties her narrative together with a focus on a collection of physical items. When I finished the book I felt that I could now see Jane Austen as a real person. I would recommend this book as a starting point for anyone interested in knowing about Austen's life. It seems to correct several ideas that are standard about her.
