Reader recommendation: The Last Gunfight

The Last Gunfight, a well written and well researched book by Jeff Guin, portrays criminality, greed, ambition, rivalry, fidelity, and law enforcement gone awry. The gunfight at OK Corral (actually in a vacant lot on Fremont Street) resulted from a complicated set of social, economic, and political issues that left eight men dangerously distrustful of each other. This confrontation changed the American West as the rule of law was thereafter enforced by courts than by gun play. The ultimate showdown between good and evil defined the end of the Old West in America, and yet, remains today in our culture – a curious image seen in the athletic, military, and political arenas.
