Reader recommendation: Turn Here Sweet Corn

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

Our book group just finished Turn Here Sweet Corn by local organic farmer Atina Diffley. Atina and her husband Martin farmed his family's land in Eagan, Minn., supplying vegetables to local co-ops and hoards of hungry farmstand customers until they were overwhelmed by urban sprawl. After finding a new place to farm farther out, they just got that land up to standards when they were notified that Koch Industries planned to run a pipeline through the center of it. Atina and local attorney Paula Maccabee took them on. The result will make you smile. These folks are local heroes. Their inspiring and engaging story deserves a much wider readership than us locavores.
