"On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century" by Timothy Snyder, Tim Duggan Books, 128 pp.

Timothy Snyder, a professor at Yale University, explores how democracy in the 20th century yielded to fascism, Nazism, and communism. Mr. Snyder's book, which deserves multiple readings, suggests daily actions that readers can take to "foster civil society," Jingnang Peng writes in a Monitor review. The slim, less-than-130 page book began as a popular Facebook post on democracy Snyder wrote after the 2016 election.
