4 cozy and (mildly) scary audiobooks

Any of these would make a good companion on your next holiday trip.

1. 'Murder on Black Swan Lane,' by Andrea Penrose

(Read by James Cameron Stewart; HighBridge Audio; 10 CDs; 12 hours)
This first “Wexford & Sloane” mystery is an unexpected delight. Set in Regency England, Penrose conjures up atmosphere but never bogs down in detail. The brusque, scientifc Earl of Wexford and the artistic Charlotte Sloane are thrown together when Wexford is blamed for the death of a clergyman. Intriguing characters and a solid mystery are enhanced by narrator Stewart, whose pacing is quick and whose diction is perfect.   Grade: A
