In an example of investigative journalism at its best, Subramanian reports on some of the largest problems – mostly environmental – facing India. Although the problems are severe and thoroughly explored, the book remains largely solution-oriented. Subramanian – who is also a lovely writer – navigates the rough waters between baneful emergencies and tentative signs of enlightened attitudes with the right degree of cautious optimism.
