6. 'The Invisible Front,' by Yochi Deazen

Debut author Dreazen tells the story of the Graham family, whose sons Kevin and Jeff were both in the military and both died young. Jeff was killed in combat in Iraq and is celebrated, while Kevin committed suicide and was the subject of much less veneration from the military. Their parents Mark – a major general – and Carol resolve to bring PTSD out into the open. "For Mark Graham, to see how the army acted towards people who had horrible wounds you could not see.... he made it his life's work," Nelson says. "It's really about this amazing couple and what they did."
