2. 'The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher,' by Hilary Mantel

"Bring Up the Bodies" writer Mantel explores various topics in her new collection of short stories, including family, marriage, and, in the controversial title work, a woman and an IRA member making a plan to kill the former prime minister. "She has great wit about her even when the material is fairly serious," Nelson says of Mantel.
