8. 'Landline,' by Rainbow Rowell

"Eleanor & Park" author Rainbow Rowell's new novel "Landline" follows Georgie McCool, a woman aware of the growing troubles in her marriage and afraid she may have ruined things for good by declining to go on the family Christmas trip. However, when she somehow finds herself talking to a past version of her husband on their landline, she gets the opportunity to look back to the past to decide if the marriage was ever a good idea in the first place. The book is "light but speaks some deep truths about marriage," says Nelson.
