"Mr. Fox" writer Oyeyemi turns another fairy tale on its head with her new novel "Boy, Snow, Bird," which is a retelling of the "Snow White" story. Boy Novak marries a widower in 1950s Massachusetts and becomes the stepmother to a daughter, Snow. But when Boy bears the widower's child and is shocked by its skin color, she discovers that her new family are African-Americans who have convinced their town that they're white. "It's a really imaginative, interesting book," Nelson says. "It's very sophisticated about race."
