Scheuer says that while she was the one who had the idea and did all the research early on, her husband Danny and daughter Sarah were won over right away by the arrival of the tiny, fluffy chickens. "At two days old, these little birds tottered nonstop, bumped into each other, sat down, stood up, and jettisoned about ... and stole our hearts," she wrote. "Our three giant human heads hovered over the chicks' bin, huge smiles on our faces. Within minutes, Sarah had given them names. That evening, we ate a picnic dinner in front of the chick bin, and that night Sarah serenaded them with soft guitar chords."
