3. Stannis Baratheon

Stannis is the younger brother of the former king, Robert. He considers himself the true heir to the throne, because he knows that Joffrey is not Robert's son. In the show's second season Stannis went to war against the Lannisters and attacked the capital, King's Landing, in an attempt to claim the throne, but he was defeated. In addition to his military interests, Stannis has been converted to a religion which follows a deity known as the Lord of Light. A priestess named Melisandre accompanies him wherever he goes. Relying on her supernatural powers, in season two Melisandre conjured a smoke monster that killed Stannis's brother Renly, another pretender to the throne.
