Hoping to tap into Miami’s Latino community as a growing fan base, the Dolphins signed defensive tackle Manny Fernandez, a Mexican-American from California. His ambassadorial value had its limitations, though, because he spoke virtually no Spanish. “Undefeated” author Mike Freeman believes that Fernandez probably deserved to be co-MVP of Super Bowl VII with Jake Scott for what Freeman says “was possibly the best performance by a defensive player in Super Bowl history.”
