6. The name ‘Dracula’ was inspired by an actual ‘Dracul’ family

After reading a historical account of the Romanian regions of Wallachia and Moldavia, Stoker became fascinated with the name "Dracula." The name itself is a patronym, or personal name based on the given name of one’s male ancestors. According to historical sources, the descendants of Vlad II, Duke of Wallachia, adopted the name "Dracul" after joining the chivalric Order of the Dragon in 1431. In Romanian, "dracul" means "the dragon" or "the devil."
