Philippa Gregory's novel kicked off a Tudor and historical novel craze when it was released in 2002. It follows Mary Boleyn, Anne's sister was the mistress of Henry VIII before Anne became involved with the king. In Gregory's book, Anne is ambitious and hurts everyone around her – including Mary and their brother, George – to realize her dreams of becoming queen. (Gregory's novel also implies that Anne committed incest with her brother.) The book was adapted into a 2008 film starring "Thor" actress Natalie Portman as Anne and "Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson as Mary.
