Roper says she was told that from birth to age three is the most difficult time with twins, and that's the conclusion she's come to as well. "It wasn't as if everything became dramatically easier as the girls approached and then surpassed the three-year mark," she wrote. "There were (and still are) tantrums and whining and the emotional exhaustion of trying to meet two competing sets of similar needs and wants at exactly the same time. The sibling rivalry arguably worsened. And on the flip side, the girls learned to conspire together: bedtime became even more challenging when, after lights-out, they consulted each other on what their next move would be.... But their cleverness had an upside as well.... they became steadily more independent and self-sufficient."
