The German Shepherd worked with her handler Air Force Staff Sergeant Chris Keilman, and Keilman says that when he and Kira were assigned to work with a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force unit that was serving in Afghanistan, it took a while for the unit to warm to the new arrivals. But soon, after Kira and Keilman proved their worth on the field, they were accepted into the group, and everyone loved the dog. "One of my guys... he didn't like that she only had a duckboard to sleep on when she was in her crate," Keilman said. "He... bought her a memory foam pad. Someone else gave her a nice soft blanket."
