Anne conducted an interview with Sam soon after Jax's birth. She opened it, she writes, by asking, "'How are you doing, Little Bear?'" There was silence, Anne writes. "'Mom?'" Sam said. "'I'm twenty, I have a child. Do you think it might be possible for you to stop calling me Little Bear?'" Anne responded with "garbled death noises ... stabbed-through-heart noises, mortification." Sam relented. "'Mom?... Could you just not call me Little Bear today?'"
