Romney’s father, George Romney, was the chairman and CEO of American Motors Corporation who served as governor of Michigan and launched an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 1968. Though his politics were successful in Michigan where he was elected to three terms with increasingly large margins, George Romney’s persona on the national stage was described, curiously, as “wooden.”
