Brady's book tells the story of 20 African-American male high school students who were recruited to the College of the Holy Cross by the Reverend John Brooks, a professor who wanted to further Martin Luther King's dream of an equal society. The men chosen by Brooks included Pulitzer Prize winner Edward T. Jones and US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. The book tells the story of five of the students' college years and how their experiences at school affected their future lives.
