Philbin and Gifford appeared in a "Seinfeld" episode in which Cosmo Kramer comes on their show to promote his coffee-table book. In the script, Philbin was supposed to say Kramer was "bonkos." Philbin didn't think the line would get a laugh, but the Seinfeld team convinced him the audience would love it. They didn't. "Deafening silence," Philbin writes. "I'd known it from the beginning. I had died a horrible death on that otherwise great episode... I will never forget the silence, nor will I ever get over it."
