Support Monitor Journalism FAQs

How will my donation be used?

The Monitor Operating Fund supports news gathering, editing, and the publishing operations of The Christian Science Monitor in all its formats and editions.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, your contribution to the Monitor Operating Fund is tax deductible. A receipt for your gift will be emailed to you from The First Church of Christ, Scientist, which owns the Monitor.

Is the Monitor moving to a donation model (like The Guardian and other publications), rather than its current subscription model?

The Monitor will continue to be subscription-based. The Monitor Operating Fund allows individuals to join in supporting Monitor journalism, but The First Church of Christ, Scientist, provides financial support above what is received from subscriptions.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
