Alex is an editorial intern who primarily covers environmental justice and the future of cities.
Before joining the Monitor, Alex founded and served as the Editor-in-Chief of The Xylom. Leading the only AAPI science newsroom in the United States, he was named the Atlanta Press Club 2024 Rising Star (awarded to the most outstanding journalist of any medium under 30 years of age) and won a Silver Prize (News & Journalism: Sustainability, Environment, & Climate) at the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Alex is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, leading a team to translate the KSJ Science Editing Handbook into Chinese. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Tech, and is matriculating from the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing in September 2024. His graduate thesis centers on the environmental harms caused by the crude oil export industry in the Texas Coastal Bend.
