Mondale campaign to return funds from excess union gifts

Walter F. Mondale's campaign has agreed to return $379,640 to the Treasury and pay a civil fine of $18,500 for taking excessive labor donations through delegate committees during the Democratic primaries. Details became public Tuesday after the Federal Election Commission sent copies of the conciliation agreement to the parties in the dispute. The commission agreed to take no further action against any of the individuals or unions involved.
