Israel criticized by 60% in US poll on Lebanon

Sixty percent of Americans surveyed in a Newsweek poll disapproved of Israel's thrust into Lebanon, the magazine reported Monday.

Thirty percent approved and 10 percent had no opinion.

And 43 percent of those interviewed said Washington should suspend or permanently cut off military aid to Israel. The poll was conducted for Newsweek by the Gallup Organization, which interviewed 752 people by telephone Aug. 4 and 5. The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.
