Scientists study results of new Mt. St. Helens blasts

Geologists monitoring the Mt. St. Helens volcano hope this week to get a closer look at changes wrought by two eruptions, March 19 and 20.
Monitor correspondent Leon Lindsay reports snowy weather and heavy steam prevented scientists in helicopters from getting a good look at the inside of the crater, but it is believed the lava dome inside was left largely intact.
Although nowhere near the power of the volcano's first 1980 eruption, these smaller bursts spewed an ash cloud some 45,000 feet high. Only minor flood damage was reported.
