Polish police discover hidden arms caches

Police have uncovered a number of private arms caches and a clandestine arms factory in northwestern Poland, the official news agency PAP reported.

Police raided several areas of Piotrkow province and uncovered dozens of guns and pistols, ammunition, and explosives, PAP said. The announcement said most of the arms had been stashed by poachers. One of the raids turned up a secret arms factory run by a locksmith who produced several dozen firearms for friends, the police said.

Meanwhile, Warsaw Radio reported that Czechoslovak border guards shot a Pole who was trying to cross the southern Polish border into Czechoslovakia in order to flee to the West.
