Four other Red Brigades members on trial made no response when Cesare Di Lenardo said they also had been tortured. The four had previously issued an appeal to their comrades to give up their struggle against the state, saying the Red Brigades' five-year campaign had been a gamble with history that had been lost. The opening trial session lasted only 20 minutes before the trial judge ordered a one-week adjournment
