Top Chilean unionists call for government protection
| Santiago, Chile
Several Chilean union leaders have called for government protection after Tucapel Jimenez, president of the civil servants union, was found dead with bullet and knife wounds last week.
Mr. Jimenez recently called for the formation of a national union to fight for the restoration of union freedoms, which have been severely restricted since a military coup in 1973. President Augusto Pinochet condemned the killing and ordered Interior Minister Sergio Fernandez to head a massive investigation.
