Ghana cuts embassies to ease deficits

Ghana's revolutionary authorities closed 13 of its 30 embassies, froze much recurrent expenditure and suspended its 1981-82 budget in an effort to stave off massive deficits, Accra radio reported.
The government, under Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings, who seized power in a Dec. 31 coup, said 1982 budget proposals under ousted President Hilla Limann have been suspended, according to the radio report.
It added that at the rate of spending over the last six months, the budget deficit would have soared to $3 billion, at the official rate of exchange, from the projected $1.6 billion.
