Williams found guilty of murdering two young men

Wayne Williams was found guilty and sentenced to two consecutive life terms for the murders of two young blacks who were among 28 black youths murdered here over a 22-month period.

Mayor Andrew Young praised Judge Clarence Cooper for conducting an ''eminently fair'' trial and said the investigation of Atlanta's child murders will continue.

Mr. Williams, a free-lance photographer and music promoter, was indicted for the murders of Nathaniel Cater and Jimmy Ray Payne on July 17, 1981. Since he was arrested June 21, there have been no murders of young blacks in the pattern which prompted fear and racial tension.

Court sources said Williams will be eligible for parole in seven years, despite his two life terms. Williams indicated he would appeal the verdict.
