No arms sales for now, Schmidt tells Saudis

Chancellor Helmut Schmidt told Saudi Arabia that it was not feasible for the time being for West Germany to sell it arms, the chancellor's spokesman said. Mr. Schmidt officially informed the Saudi government that he saw no possibility at present of selling arms to countries that were not members of NATO.

Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in buying West Germany's heavy Leopard II battle tank and other weapons b ut has not made any concrete request.
