Oscar-race front-runners named

"Kramer vs. Kramer" and "All That Jazz" captured nine nominations Monday in the 52nd annual Academy Awards nominations. Both films were nominated for best picture of the year, as were "Apocalypse Now," "Breaking Away," and "Norma Rae."
Dustin Hoffman was nominated as best actor for his performance as the confused divorced father in "Kramer vs. Kramer." Other best-actor nominees were Jack Lemmon ("The China Syndrome"), Al Pacino (". . . And Justice for All"), Roy Scheider ("All That Jazz"), and Peter Sellers ("Being There").
Nominated for best actress were Sally Field ("Norma Rae), Jill Clayburgh ("Starting Over"), Jane Fonda ("The China Symdrome"), Marsha Mason ("Chapter Two"), and Bette Midler ("The Rose").
Nominated for best director were Bob Fosse ("All That Jazz"), Francis Ford Coppola ("Acopalypse Now"), Peter Yates ("Breaking Away"), Robert Benton ("Kramer vs. Kramer"), and Edouard Molinaro ("La Cage Aux Folles").
Academy members will vote on the nominees by secret ballot next month.
