Kaline and Snider land in Baseball Hall of Fame

Al Kaline, longtime star right fielder for the Detroit Tigers, and Duke snider, slugging center fielder of the old Brooklyn dodgers, were voted into baseball's Hall of Fame Wednesday.

Kaline, who hit .297 and made 3,007 hits in a career stretching from 1953 to 1974, was the 10th player elected in his first year of eligibility. He received 340 of a possible 385 votes in balloting by 10-year veterans of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Snider, who hit .295 with 407 home runs in 18 seasons between 1947 and 1964, got 333 votes to make it in his 11th year on the ballot.
